We're youthful businesses who do our own thing, but are coming together to bring added value and an upbeat tempo to Melton Mowbray. Starting a distillery was never going to be easy, from the regulations and paperwork through to the actual recipe development. We started the initial concept with the bottle design - Mirroring the 10-plate copper still in the design of the Brentingby flag ship London Dry gin bottle.

Please tell our readers more about the gin, the story of and how the idea for Brentingby Gin came about? The cookie is used to calculate visitor, session, campaign data and keep track of site usage for the site's analytics report. I ensured I worked with an amazing master distiller to help me learn how to use the still, and it helped that I knew every inch of her, and we hand chose all of the botanicals inspired by the local area, and my South African heritage. Angelica, one of the key botanicals in the gin, has strong Norse-connections, and was brought to Orkney by the legendary seafairers. The distinct asymmetric stopper is reminiscent of the philosopher’s stone, synonymous with alchemy, helping to create a stand-out bottle in keeping with that from which it takes its name.Paul felt that many of the gin brands he looks at didn’t stand out so opted for the minimalistic design and shape.

Other gins in the collection include a fragrant pineapple and raspberry gin as well as the tea-infused Brentingby Gin Rooibos and Baobab Gin.It’s a huge favourite with gin fanatics since its launch in 2018, both for this beauty, as well as its somewhat flavoursome gin. While it may not add anything to the flavour of the spirit it’s a process which certainly helps inspire the mystical aura its name suggests. We can offer tours and tastings, though the group size is limited to around 4-6 due to space constraints. It celebrates a “Golden age of exploration” when European ships journeyed the ocean on voyages of discovery (think Sir Walter Raleigh and Sir Francis Drake).
